[Nail Blog] – Domo Kun says “RAAAWWWRR”

Archive_Miscellaneous_Domo-kun_and_lizard_026020_For those who don’t know, this is Domo Kun, an adorable little mascot of the Japanese television station NHK, and I love him to bits. He’s known for going on a rampage and yelling “raawww” LOL I really haven’t seen much of his cartoons/stop motion videos, but you just can’t help but fall in love with the little guy! Look at him!!!

Anyways, he was my inspiration when I came up with this mani. I actually had a couple in mind, but went with this one. Next time I might try the other one.

Anyways, without further adieu, here’s the mani I did yesterday. I didn’t want all my nails covered up, so I went with French tip for a few of the nails. The white background with red sun, is sort of a symbol of Japan, it’s on their flag, minus the lines. The thumb on the left hand (shown below) is Domo Kun peeking out. It took me a few tries to get it looking better. I had originally wanted to put his hand in front of his face, but it just didn’t look right. And the ring finger, is obviously normal Domo.

imageHere’s my right hand. I am not one for sticking to one design and that’s it, so I wanted to do something different with my right. I only did the 2 Domos on my right, with a combo of the Japanese sun symbol on the index. The background was sponged on, and has a bit of a gradient. And instead of regular Domo, I have nerdy Domo on my ring finger.

imagePolish I am holding is from OPI, “You Don’t Know Jacques!” And is the brown I used for Domo. The rest of the polish were mainly Etude House ones that I got from Korea.

I quite like this mani.

[Nail Blog] – ‘Tis the Season

IT’S DECEMBER !! ‘Tis the season for Christmas nails! I had wanted to try the Rudolf nail for a while, but not that appropriate for outside of Christmas? The other nails were just off the top of my head. Santa ended up being dismembered…

Here’s my attempt to assemble the Santa, I got hand cramp…
imageMost of the products are Etude House except for the top coat and the silver.

[Etude House] – Wonder Pore Clay Clear

This was something I had purchased with the collagen massage gel from Etude House. I wanted something for pore cleaning. I am having a lot of issues with my pores lately, so I had been fairly interested in this sort of stuff.

Packaging: it came in a plastic jar with a spatula for hygienic digging I suppose.

image

The content was a bit foamy, and collapses once you start spreading it on the face and turns into regular clay mask type of texture. But if you leave it alone (in the jar) for a bit it foams up again. I’ve used up pretty much half of the jar, but every time I open it, it still looks the same with the product up to the rim.

The product smells like clay, it’s not a particularly pleasant scent, nor a terrible scent. It dries hard, and is difficult to wash off. Kind of feels like a scrub when I am washing it off.

The effectiveness of this clay is meh. It does dry out the skin (as in take away the oil that supposedly produces blackheads and whiteheads). I don’t read Korean, but the pictures on the box was a bit misleading, it looked more like it would clean out the pores, but I don’t feel like it does. I give it a 5/10 also. Not something I would repurchase. I am, however, looking into “Jeju volcanic pore clay mask” from Innisfree. I think I will try that out too. I wish I can find my Daiso charcoal peel mask though…the Korean daiso does not sell them. If I find a Daiso this time in Japan I will buy one. (oh yeah did I forget to mention I am going to the Kansai area of Japan?)

Until next time 🙂

[Etude House] – Mistful Collagen Essential Massage Gel

A while back I purchased the Mistful Collagen Essential Massage Gel from Etude House wanting to use it as a moisturising mask. Although the label says massage gel, some of the reviews I have read have used it as a moisturising mask, as it’s consistency is thick and since it’s collagen it must have some sort of moisturising effect with it.

Here’s the jar. It’s a very large jar with 200ml of product for a little less than $10 Canadian. So it’s super cheap. I find a lot of the Etude House things are super cheap, but not always the best.

The product itself was very jelly-ish, kind of felt like very thick honey. The smell wasn’t bad but nothing notable. I store this in the fridge so when I put it on it has a cooling effect, which was a wonderful bonus in the hot Korea summers. Before I wash this off I would use it to massage my face and neck first, until the gel consistency thins out a little. This product is very difficult to wash off, I would normally use it before a shower and then wash it off while showering.

Because of the thick consistency of this product, it sort of acts as a barrier right above your skin, so I actually think this would act much better with something else underneath, perhaps a moisturising cream or another moisturising mask.

image

As for it’s moisturising properties, I didn’t really feel anything. My skin felt more glowy after I wash this stuff off, but it wasn’t really a moisturised glow, just a after face wash glow LOL. I give this a 5/10, because it didn’t perform as well as I wanted it to.

[Shop Korea] – Holy Samples

I got a membership card from Etude House! Yup! You heard right! My second trip to Seoul my friend helped me get one. They don’t have actual membership cards, so I have to give them my cell phone number every time, me not speaking Korean makes this difficult, but good thing I can show them my number.

Anyways, a few days ago I walked into Etude House with the intention of getting a cleansing mask and a moisturising mask, and I actually did not buy anything else. So proud.

These are the 2 things I got. Moistful Collagen essential massage. It says it’s a massage gel, but I saw a few reviews that used it as a mask. The other one Wonder Pore Clay Clear (yeah don’t ask me about the bad English), it’s a clay mask that is suppose to help cleans the pores and shrink them.

image

So my post today is not a review of these 2 products, that will be in a separate post. My post today is about the insane amount of samples Korea gives. So with my product purchase, totalling about $20 CND, I got these 2 sample packs. At first I thought the sales was trying to sell me these things. Inside the Wonder Pore packages there was a toner, an essence and 2 sample packs of the clay I just got. I am not sure why he gave me this, but I do like the little bottle the toner came in. the other one is the aloe line in the same Moistful Collagen. The sales kept pointing to it, and with his limited English told me it’s the same…it is not…The aloe is a cream, gel and essence combo for, what I figure, stressed skin after sun tanning.

image

I don’t think I am exaggerating when I say we probably won’t get these types of samples except when we get the gift with purchase, which is usually a purchase of at least $30.

And the following picture is of the collection of samples I have gotten since I came to Korea…

I love samples, especially travelling more now, samples can get me through the days I don’t feel like bringing stupid jars and such around.

Until next time!
