[Polish Craze] – Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Fuzz-sea

Sally-Hansen_Fuzzy-Coat_Textured-Nail-PolishI saw these on the shelves in Walgreens while on my Portland trip and just had to get it. It was $6.99 (I believe).

It looked really interesting in the bottle, but after I applied, I was quite disappointed by it. It was not at all what I had thought/imagined it would look/feel like.

With all the little straight glitter pieces in the bottle, I thought it was going to feel somewhat grass like, and looks a bit grass like. But I suppose I misinterpreted the “fuzzy” in the name. I guess it’s more like fuzzy sweater, not fuzzy grass/fur.

Anyways, I tried to do a mani without knowing the properties of this polish, and it did not look that great. I pulled the teal and yellow from the fuzzy coat colour I had purchased for a French tip, and solid fuzzy coat on the ring finger. That was 4 coats of it, and it took too long to dry and so I took this off after this picture was taken. I’ll have to find a better way for this polish to work.

[Nail Mania] – Crackle Your Matte

This year in lieu of pumpkins and ghosts, I am going with a more chic feel for Halloween nails, though I would say this has nothing to do with Halloween (haha).

While I was in Taiwan, my cousin gave me a few bottles of nail polish, one of which was a matte black crackle. Personally, I never really liked crackle polish, they look unfinished and the OPI ones I tried out didn’t look that great. This one, however, had a pretty neat look to it. It crackled in the right places and looks pretty nice. So an idea popped in my head just last night. I ‘ve always liked the contrast between matte and shiny, especially for the colour black. I find the different characteristics intriguingly interesting. So I thought, what if I put a coat of cream black polish under that matte crackle, and made this.

imageI went with a rose gold base for my ring finger, because you all know how I don’t like boring. Ideally, I would have liked the shiny black to come through a bit better, but I think the crackle pulls some of the shine away. Maybe I can try a metallic black next time. Overall though I do like the look of this mani, and I do think it has a bit of a Halloween-esque feel to it, don’t you?

[Nail Mania] – Innisfree polish swatch

Hi, my name is Sandy and I am a nail polish hoarder…haha I feel like I am in AA or rather NPA (Nail Polish Anonymous) LOL. But seriously, my year here in Korea, I’ve hoarded about 21 bottles of nail polish (including top and base coat). My original intention for not bring any nail polish to Korea was to let my nail take a long needed break, and plus it adds weight to my luggage. Well that didn’t last very long, 2 weeks in Korea I already bought a set of 3 nail polishes. And it all went down hill from there. Can’t really blame me, Korean nail polishes are so cheap! After spending 5 to 7 dollars on OPI and China Glaze, you can’t really expect me not to be tempted with good quality nail polish that’s less than 5 dollars pretty much everywhere. I love Etude House nail polish, they are cheap and good quality. But I found myself falling for a different brand lately. I had actually looked at this polish about 5 times, but never bought it because I felt that I really shouldn’t hoard that much nail polish home. Well…now that I’ve gotten it, I want more!

Innisfree nail polish is probably one of the best ones I’ve tried here in Korea, Holika Holika comes in a close 2nd, but HH has less colour selection, same with Etude House. The Faceshop is a hit or miss, I got a metallic one that worked great, but two jelly ones didn’t work that well (streaky and difficult to get an even coat, and takes forever to dry). But this Innisfree, suppose is free of some harmful chemicals (I can’t tell you which ones…it’s all in Korean, but I would imagine formaldehyde to be one of them), dries pretty fast, and most importantly, there’s a huge colour selection.

Anyways, the reason this particular colour drew my attention was because a friend of mine had told me she really liked Deborah Lippmann’s glitter polishes. This one reminds me of the one that’s call Candy Shop. Mind you the Innisfree version doesn’t have as much glitter as the DL brand, or at least from what I can see in the picture. Here are some swatches.

2 layers, under natural light. I really like this pink.

I am actually not a big fan of glitter polishes because they don’t always look good, since the glitters always have a mind of their own and goes where ever they please. Secondly, they are a bitch to remove. I am not sure about the ease of removing this, but I actually like the random spots of glitter on this. The pink is also very pleasing to the eye. This is number 81 and I am thinking I want to buy more…

They also have a colour that’s a dub for Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday and Glitter in the Air. There’s also a pink one with silver and pink glitter instead of the teal and pink glitter one I have…man this is a deep dark black hole that I really shouldn’t jump into…but I suppose it’s too late haha.

[Nail Blog] – Polish Overkill

Nov 18, 2011

Recently I went down to Portland (yes again) and did another haul, or bleeding out of my wallet. I am still contemplating on whether or not to share my haul, as most of them are not beauty related (just shoes). This is the only part of the haul that was beauty related, minus the UD liners I got, but those aren’t terribly exciting.

Last time I went my friend and I took the train down to Portland, so we had some limitations in terms of what to buy (had to think about hauling it back home) and where to go (had to be transit accessible), so we did not stop by Ulta. But this time we drove, so I just had to. I am going to apologize in advance (especially to the American readers) about the unnecessary amount of pictures of walls of nail polish. But I am from Canada and we don’t get this here, I get excited with these types of things!

So when we arrived at Ulta, it was about 20mins from closing, we didn’t have much time, my other friends thought Ulta was just going to be a dinky little drugstore type of store. When we walked in, it was more like a “HOLY SHIT THERE’S SO MUCH STUFF” store. So at first I didn’t see the nail polishes, and that was really my main reason to go there, I was kind of disappointed, but then I walked deeper and deeper into the store, and HOLY SHIT WALLS OF NAIL POLISH! And so come the unnecessary amount of nail polish wall pictures.

And so I went a bit insane. The Chinaglaze polishes were $7 per bottle, but there was a promotion of buy 2 get 1 free, so it was more like $4.60 per bottle, which is really cheap! The only place I have ever saw Chinaglaze polish was at a nail salon and they were selling it for $11 a bottle (hells no). So I got a few bottles. I think the purple sparkly one (Marry a Millionaire) was a newer collection and so it was $8 instead of $7, but still cheaper than $11.

From left to right: Harmony, Marry a Millionaire, Fairy Dust (thought it was a holo, but wasn’t as holo-rific as I watned)

I was so excited that I forgot to use the coupons that I had printed out ($3.50 off for $10 purchase). And because we were rushed that night we decided to go back before we make our way back to Vancouver, BC. Unfortunately, the coupons expired that night, but fortunately, Ulta had another coupon (20% off 1 item), and our hotel had free printing! So I printed out some coupons, and when we got back to Ulta, I just had to get more polish…

From left to right: Planks A Lot, You Don’t Know Jacques! (wanted this one for a while)

And here are some swatches of the new polishes! I only wanted to swatch the colours, as I am still growing out the yucky yellow on my nails, and I was going to file it down after the swatches. My nails chipped pretty badly in Portland due to the dryness of the air.

Top to bottom: Harmony (1 coat), Planks A Lot (2 coats), Marry a Millionair (3 coats)

From top to bottom: Fairy Dust (3 coats; kind of disappointed by the colour), You don’t know Jacques! (2 coats), Fairy dust (1 coat) on top of Planks A Lot (2 coats)
